Put the goat down ... and take off the mask

So the semi-monthly update!
No, I'm not explaining the title of this post ... so...

It's a book so click to read the whole thing, grab some coffee …

Katie is doing good in school. Seems once she brings one grade up another drops. She continues to find LSMSA vastly more challenging than the local High schools. She has to actually work for her grades now. The “worry du-jour” is American history II. Katie MUST pass all classes with a C or she won't be invited back next year. That means, she would finish out her Junior and quite possibly her senior year locally. She's too smart for that. I know it. Funny part is, I'm taking the same history class at LA Tech (accelerated version) so when she talks about what she's doing, I can relate, literally. Katie is looking forward to coming home for Easter break. She'll be home from April 15th to the 24th. I gave Katie her first lesson in driving a standard a two week-ends ago. It was, at least, non kinetic in nature … but entertaining to be sure. I was nice though. No yelling or death screams. We kept it in first/second gear.

Becca is doing good. She is still pulling down A's and B's. I've found that gentle constant pushing is needed to keep those grades up. She's a bit … airy, sometimes. Her best friend Cassie is moving from Minot North Dakota, to Wichita Falls Texas in August. She's peeing herself silly about that. I'm looking forward to Tommy and Becky and their pack being closer too. I'm going to start getting Becca more involved with being active and getting out of the house. Good for her and me. Her friends around here are one grade over her and she feels left behind and not included sometimes. Mostly, I feel, because she spends two weeks gone out of the month so she doesn't have a consistent presence around her friends here. So, I'm trying to figure out how to minimize that impact on her development. I DON'T want her to turn out on the anti-social side like me.

I tested for Master Sergeant last month. I'll find out how I did in July/August sometime. I'm taking three classes right now: Developmental Psychology, American History II, and Biology. The Psych class is online. NEVER again on-line! That is to say, I will be much more careful in the future as to what class I sign for on-line. I only have a few more core classes to take then I can start in on the concentrations. Right now it's Social Sciences but I can change that to Business Management or whatever. The degree is in General Studies regardless.

I realized last week that by this time next year I'll have the ex's van paid off! That means I can finally get a new or newer used, car. But before that I'll have other considerations. Use the money for a car/truck, pay down the equity loan (paid off in October 2012 right now), or (dual) pay down credit card/build savings. I have some time figure that out. My plan (in this order) is to make Master sergeant (2011), build savings until the ex's van is paid off (an extra $588) (2012), new/used car/truck and/or pay down credit card and equity loan ($ 575 mo), Katie turns 18 (2012) child support “supposedly” stops. May roll that into some sort of an account for Katie, start working on house (roof, garage, interior, attic, plumbing, etc...) and grounds (fence, landscaping, etc..) (2013) to get it into sell-able condition (not to sell, just to make easy, in case), Get my Bachelors (2014), retire from active duty (late 2014/early 2015). Get a job I like. I am sold (sorry Mom, sorry Dad) on retiring here. The people, attitude, the area, the history... hopefully there will be a Mrs Berry in there somewhere but my focus is my girls and my personal security/growth.

My running is improving as is my general health. I've started mountain biking. Even though my activity level has increased, my weight hasn't. I think trading muscle for fat. Clothes fit better, I feel better, but the scale still hates me and I still have a few plenty pounds to loose.

I'm listening to music again like I did when I was younger. Never realized how much I missed that till the past few months. I have a lady friend (settle down) that's bringing me up to speed on what new bands/soloists are out there.

Blitzen is on week two of his heart worm treatment and doing good. He hates being locked up all the time but it's only for a the next 5 weeks. His second round of shots is coming in two weeks. I'm told those are the more dangerous ones for possible blood clots of dying/dead worms so I'll need to be even more restrictive on his activity level. He is loosing weight still since I restricted his food a while ago. He looking real good! About 5 more pounds and he'll be good and lean again! I started running with him before he started the heart worm treatment and he loved it so I know he's looking forward to that again like I am.

Well I guess that about it. I have a busy week-end ahead. Yard work and studying for the most part. I get Becca back tomorrow!!!! I miss the little booger face!

… Kenny
