Back home...

21 06 2009

I'm back from Minot AFB. If it were earlier in the year it would have sucked more. Minot is, well, Minot. The Minotians were preparing for an exercise so they didn't have much time for us when we got there. Then "like manna from heaven" someone reminded them of their commitment to support us and we all of a sudden were important again. The weather was great though.

I was supposed to meet with Tommy and Becky while I was up there but they had a family emergency to take care of and they had to take leave out of the area. I'll be back to Minot soon enough.

Nothing much else happening now. Getting ready to go to Trey and Lisa's once the girls get here from Brenda's. Standard fathers day Bar-b-que.

The loaders at Minot had a cool stencil on the load box so I snapped a pic.

Catching up - June

“Suspect each moment, for it is a thief, tiptoeing away with more than it brings.” John Updike

The last time I pounded out some letter and word combinations I told you about two trips the girls and I went on.

Since then it's been kind of hectic.

2 Trips

20 04 2009

The girls and me went to the lake last week and to SciPort on Sunday. Both picture sets are uploaded onto Picasa. As well as those I have made a collage of our Lake trip. It's here in the Miscellaneous pictures. Click the image to see the full size version.

So glad I have Linux ...

16 04 2009
"Fret" over at Memecode is a freeware application developer in his free time. I am patiently waiting for Linux version of InScribe to reach a stable version. It's a mail client I used in Windows, when I was using it. He posted a funny thing here.

Seems a certain socialist-like administration and the boys in Redmond have similar ideals. At least with Linux, YOU decide what gets installed, YOU decide what is best for your computer, YOU decide when you need to upgrade.

Easter break

13 04 2009

So Easter break is here. I took leave for the week so I could be with the girls and do some fun stuff. In an hour or two we're going base to play racquetball and hang at the gym for a bit. That's assuming it's open. Last Thursday night's storm (tornado) did a bit of damage to the base and the main gate is still closed.

Today it's playing at the gym and cleaning up around the house. Tomorrow it's dentist appointments and going through their rooms and boxing up all the old toys and clothes.

Wednesday we're seeing Monsters and Aliens 3D, Becca is going to to friends for a birthday party that night.

Thursday we're packing a lunch and heading to the lake. It's too cold to swim but we can do other stuff. We'll stop at the little zoo they have when we're ready to leave. We'll take Blitzen with us. Later we'll finish up the rooms and whatever.

Friday is open. I'll be working on the lawn and doing laundry (yawn). Then we'll go to SciPort I think.

Bossier City got hit pretty good with a tornado last Thursday. It didn't follow a path as much as drop down on random spots. We were fine, other houses a mile away weren't hit too bad but a few had their roofs ripped up, power lines were ripped out of the ground at the front gate to Barksdale, tree's ripped in two (the big southern oaks ... yeah), fences gone, etc....

GAAAAHHH!!!

5 04 2009

So I don't know what the f happened but the site is back.

As in, the previous version was wiped off the face of the big WWW. Something got borked in the way information gets stored and it basically makes me want to shove freshly sharpened pencils into my eyeballs. ALL the old news, gone, didn't happen, wasn't real, has been unplugged ...

So to console myself yesterday I went to Trey and Lisa's for craw-fish, beer, ... hmmmm, yep just those two. Becca spent the night there with Sydney, Cullen, and Taylor, Brenda dropped Katie off for bit. I stumbled home about midnight.

Took Becca to the BX yesterday for an easter egg hunt, face-painting, games, etc.. and to try out the Korean vendor that just opened up outside the BX. Not too shabby. The Bulgogi and Yaki-mandu are dead on. Becca won a door prize but we haven't gone to pick it up yet.

I'm taking leave for easter week while the girls are out of school. I have them both that week. Gotta think of something to do with them on a non-existant budget. Paint drying 101 or something, I don't know. Oooh lunch at the lake then the zoo? Sold...
